Author Spotlight – Dan Rabarts

by Ministry Admin on May 5, 2016

As we prepare for the launching this year of the final season of Tales from the Archives, we thought it might be a grand idea to highlight the authors who have helped us along the way. These are writers who have created wonderful characters and adventures for the Ministry, and we highly recommend you check out their other work. This week, we bring you one of our authors from our second season, Dan Rabarts.

Dan RabartsHailing from Wellington, New Zealand, just like our journalist Pip Ballantine, Dan brings more New Zealand flair to the Ministry.

Taking agents Agents Lachlan King and Barry Ferguson, created by fellow New Zealand author for the Ministry, Grant Stone, Dan directed them into the mysteries underground in All That Glitters. In his Ministry Protocol tale Where the River Shines, Dan sent them deep into the New Zealand bush, and gave Barry a tractor. The Ministry world was never the same.

However Dan’s talents do not just stop with the Ministry.

He is a writer of all kinds of fantasy novels and speculative fiction, but also a sometime narrator of podcasts (including stories for the Hugo award-winning StarShipSofa). He spends the rest of his time beings an occasional sailor of sailing things, and father of two wee miracles in a little house on a hill, in Wellington.

In 2014 he received the Sir Julius Vogel Award for Best New Talent. Baby Teeth – Bite-sized Tales of Terror, the horror anthology he co-edited with Lee Murray also won the SJV for Best Collected Work and the Australian Shadows Award for Best Edited Work.

His short stories have appeared in venues such as Beneath Ceaseless Skies, Aurealis Magazine, and Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine

You can find him on Twitter from time to time, and on Facebook now and then. If you want to find out more about his exploits, we suggest heading over to his corner of the aethernet.
