Steampunk Hands Around The World — My Favourite Thing

This month is steampunk Hands Around the World. An event that I think shows just how global this movement has become.

Talking about my favorite thing is so hard. I would be tempted to say people and run down a list of the generous, creative people I have had the pleasure of meeting; Thomas Willeford, Professor Q, Montague Jacque Fromage, Reginald Pikedevant, Steampunk Boba Fett, Aleta Pardalis, Sarah Hunter…etc, etc…

However I would never call any of these fabulous people things, so if pushed I would have to say something from New Zealand…teapot racing.

Splendid Teapot RacingTeapot racing is spreading all over the world, but it was started by . How on earth they decided to create teapots that can be raced is a mystery. I would imagine it had something to do with Tesla…

A teapot racer is a remote control teapot themed wheeled or tracked device. Steampunk all over the world are now gathering to whizz these little contraptions around courses and over obstacles.

It is quite the most steampunk thing I know of. It encapsulates the whimsy and the creativity that I think is my favourite kind of steampunk. Teapots with octopus climbing out. Teapots with little mad rodents driving. Teapots that not only race but chuff steam as well. Who can fail to be charmed and amused by such creations.

If you want to organize your own teapot races, then visit Splendid Teapot racing for details and rules to get it started.

Whimsy and fun await!
